An intimate and monumental journey through six decades of artistic practice, unfolding from the very sanctuary where Amaral’s enigmatic universe first took root.
A Tree and Its Shadow was an ambitious retrospective that presented a panoramic vision of Jim Amaral’s (b. 1933) prolific career. Spanning sixty years of uninterrupted creation, the exhibition was staged within the symbolic and physical framework of "The House"—the artist's long-time residence and studio in Bogotá. This living organism served as both a refuge and a mirror, where domestic memory, secrets, and creative emanations converged to reveal the artist's profound influence on the Colombian contemporary canon.
